How to Start Crafting When You Don’t Know Where to Begin

Have you ever seen a craft project and thought, I would love to make that…but I have no idea where to start?

If so, you are exactly who I created ICTMT for.

I have been a crafter for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I have tried a little bit of everything—painting, digital art, sublimation, Cricut crafts, and plenty of other creative hobbies along the way.

Creating has always been a big part of my life. But after losing my mom, I went through a season when I simply didn’t feel creative anymore. Finding my way back took time, and along the way, I realized something important:

Creativity doesn’t have to be complicated.

You don’t need a craft room full of expensive supplies. You don’t need years of experience. And you definitely don’t need to make something perfect. You just need a place to begin.

Start With Something That Looks Fun

My best advice? Don’t overthink it.

Choose a project that makes you smile and think, I’d like to try that.

Maybe it’s painting. Maybe it’s a seasonal craft. Maybe it’s something completely new.

Start with one simple project and buy only the supplies you need. As you discover what you enjoy, your craft collection—and your confidence—will naturally grow.

Give Yourself Permission to Be a Beginner

Your first project probably won’t be perfect.

That’s okay.

You might choose the wrong color, glue something on crooked, or end up with something that looks completely different from the picture.

That’s part of creating!

Tutorials, patterns, tracers, and step-by-step guides can make trying something new feel much easier. That’s also a big part of what I hope to offer here at ICTMT: simple resources that help you stop wondering Can I make that? and start saying I can totally make that!

Just Start Creating

You don’t need hours of free time or the perfect craft space.

Sometimes, all you need is an hour, a few basic supplies, and the willingness to try.

My hope is that ICTMT becomes a place you visit when you need a little inspiration, want to learn something new, or simply need encouragement to get started.

So look around. Find something that makes you smile. Pick a project and give it a try.

You might just surprise yourself.

Welcome to ICTMT—where beginners become creators.
